Women,
why do we love thugs?
By Venessia Young "Mississippi
Chocolate Chick" (Ridgeland, MS United
States)
Wahida job does an
excellent job of bringing us into the lives
of Jaz, Kyra, and Angel. All three of these
women have intellect and aspire to be something
in life, but the one common denominator that
brings them together is their love of thugs.
Even though Angel is going to school to be a
lawyer she still somehow manages to end up dating
one of the most brutal pimps in the city. She
knows that he is a pimp but lets his good sex
cloud her judgment. Kyra is also in school but
just can't seem to get away from the thug Marvin
who has been in her life since the age of fourteen,
even though he got her hooked on heroin. Jaz
is dating the thug Faheem who actually left
the drugs alone to be with her, but unknown
to him she has a secret that could make or break
the relationship. What is it? Buy the book to
find out. I read this book in 5 hours because
I could not put it down and I am sure you won't
be able to either!!
The
Best is Yet to Come
By R. Tinsley (North Carolina)
Wahida
Clark is by far one of my favorite authors,
I have never read one of her books, that I didn't
really enjoy, and connect with the characters.
Thugs and the Women who Love them is the first
book, in a series of Thug Books by Wahida Clark.
You will love this book. This book is centered
around three women Kyra,Jaz,and Angel, and the
Thug men in there lives. Angel is a good girl,
who is going to college to be a lawyer. The
Thug in Angel's life is Snake aka Keenan. Snake
is a mean Pimp. He totally abuses women, and
has several women he pimps and beats regularly.
Snake and Angel have a love/hate relationship,
he pays all of her bills, and doesn't prostitue
Angel, but he beats her , and he has many women
in his life. Jaz is in a relationship with Faheem,
he is a hustler who maintains many Liquor Stores,
and Check Cashing Companies.Jaz has pleaded
that she can not be with a drug dealer and that
Faheem needed to get out of the game. Jaz is
a Chemisry major in College, and she is already
letting her Major pay off, by cooking Crystal
Meth . Faheem doesn't know this part of Jaz,
until she is arrested and needs Faheem to come
to her rescue. Kyra,is about to become a Doctor.
When Kyra was younger she fell in love with
Marvin, who was much older than her and a known
drug dealer. Kyra and Marvin indulged and became
Heroin addicts together.Marvin got a 7 year
sentence in prison, and Kyra got her life together,
now he is out of prison and coming back to claim
his woman. These Women stand by there men, all
in the name of love. After you read the book
you will have a few unanswered questions, which
is okay since the best is yet to come.I really
liked this book,if you like hot, urban GHETTOFABULOUS,
thuggish books, then you will enjoy this one.
This is real street lit!!!!
POWERFUL!!!!!
By Coffy6 (Trenton, NJ United States)
I just finished reading "Thugs and
the Women Who Love Them", and I must say
I am impressed. Wahida Clark's book has a "realness"
that I have only seen in novels by Iceberg Slim
and Donald Goines. Ms. Clark gives us a good
look into the city streets and the people who
may not always be what they seem. Just knowing
that Ms. Clark was incarcerated while writing
this book should give hope to many young people
hoping to accomplish their dreams and overcome
obstacles. I am especially proud of Wahida Clark
because she is from my hometown...Trenton NJ.
When she mentions streets, parks, and projects
in Trenton it really brings the story to life
for me. I would recommend this book to anyone
who enjoys a gritty novel with a hardcore dose
of reality.
